What Are You Depositing In Your Mental Bank?

December 2nd, 2006

Most people put away some money into their savings account at the bank on a regular basis. This is a great idea for two reasons. Firstly, it gives them better opportunities for a more prosperous future and secondly, the longer the money stays in the bank account the more interest is accrued and the balance begins to grow. So what do I mean when I ask, what are you depositing in your mental bank? Just like making a monetary deposit into a savings bank, every time you have a thought, say a word or visualize an image you are making a deposit into your mental bank. As the money in the savings bank begins to grow with interest, so do the thoughts, words and images you deposit in your mind.

Your mind is like a sponge and it is ready to soak up anything and everything it hears, thinks or sees. Do not ever underestimate the power of suggestion. Whenever your subconscious mind accepts something and believes it to be true it begins to act and when it takes action it will not stop till what it believes comes to pass. The only way to stop the powerful manifestation ability of the subconscious mind is to change your belief otherwise what you believe will eventually become inevitable. For example, you are single and lonely and have been for a while, the longer you remain this way the more you think you will never find someone. Without even being aware of it, while walking along the street you see a happy couple and say to yourself, “I will always be alone”. When you are at home eating dinner you see yourself sitting alone in the future eating dinner alone. You have just made three interest bearing deposits into your mental bank, assuring your future alone.

By becoming consciously aware of your thoughts, words and feelings you can gain a measure of control over the circumstances which occur in your reality. This takes time to master and will not happen over night. Like anything else you need to practice catching negative thoughts as they arise in the constant chatter of your mind. A great way to start the process of changing negative thoughts to positive ones is to give yourself an indicator or a sign to take notice of your thoughts at any given moment. For example when I was learning to catch the negative thoughts entering my mind I used to carry around a golden crystal in my pocket. It was simply a sign to take notice of my thoughts whenever I looked at it, touched it or felt it in my pocket. When I realized my mind was wondering in the wrong direction I would instantly replace those negative thoughts with positive affirmations or visualize an image of how I wanted my life to be. I used to carry this medium size crystal so often that one time I was asked to empty my pockets at the Singapore International Airport (very strict rules entering Singapore) and I realized I had accidentally put the crystal in my pocket instead of my luggage and they wanted to know what it was and why was I carrying it. As I paused to think of an appropriate answer one of the security staff asked if it was my lucky crystal with a smile and I told him yes it was. Singapore like many other international airports these days usually confiscates anything they are remotely unsure about. So luckily I was allowed to keep it as I had been carrying it for ages.

Just as it is important to be mindful of your thoughts you also need to pay careful attention to your words as they represent another way of making deposits in your mental bank. Words are doubly powerful as not only do you think about them as you say them they also carry sound energy which means you hear them as well as feel them. The repetition of your own words has a tremendous power over you so you need to be conscious of every word you use. Positive affirmations are another great way to transmute negative words. For example, you catch yourself saying in an unpleasant situation “oh this always happens to me” and replace it with something more positive like “I learn from every situation and life just keeps getting better”. The repetition of positive words deposits itself in your mental bank and with time it draws interest or power and then becomes your dominant thought, permanently replacing the old negative thought.

In time positive thoughts and words begin to dominate your mind and this has the effect through the law of attraction for the universe to bring you circumstances and events that are of a more positive nature. So in effect the accumulation of more positive thoughts, words and imagery gets banked up in your mind and brings to you exactly what you have been thinking about. Like I mentioned earlier, it takes some time to get into the right positive mind frame but all you need to do to begin is start catching the negative thoughts and words as they come up and replace them with something positive. You could start by putting some notes up around the house or at work to trigger you into positive action or do as I did and get yourself a crystal or stone and wear it around your neck or put it in your pocket. Then sit back and watch the interest build up in your mental bank. After that all your withdrawals will be positive.
