The Ideal Breakfast

March 3rd, 2007

The ideal breakfast is first and foremost actually eating breakfast. Although I would not recommend eating literally anything for breakfast, it is necessary to at least eat something as a morning meal or within an hour or so of waking up each day. This gets the bodys metabolism moving at the beginning of our day. Eating breakfast has so many benefits for every body type whether you want to gain or lose weight or for anything in between. This is probably why breakfast is often referred to as the most important meal of the day. Even if you have never been a breakfast eater and are in great physical shape, at least do yourself a favor and consider the following information, it might allow you to stay in even better shape for more years to come.

The ideal breakfast in my opinion and the breakfast I eat everyday is one that at first I did not enjoy but now I not only enjoy it, I look forward to it from the moment I get out of bed. My daily breakfast is a combination of simple, easy to eat and easy to prepare foods.

I start each day with a medium size bowl of oatmeal. This is an ideal breakfast food for numerous reasons. Oatmeal is very high in fiber and is the perfect food to put into your system first thing in the morning to keep your body regular. Eating a decent serving of high fiber food everyday, especially in the morning when your body is basically empty of food, is an excellent way to keep your intestines and digestinal tract clear and functioning properly. It also helps decrease the chances of cancer in those areas of the body and in the bowel. The oatmeal also has a low rating on the glycemic index (GI) which means it is a slow burning and long lasting carbohydrate in the system. This means the energy you get from oatmeal will give you sufficient power and sustenance to help you through the day. On top of this, oatmeal is extremely low in fat and can be mixed with fruit to give it some extra taste. In fact, mixing oatmeal with pears might possibly be the perfect breakfast in terms of a total fiber infusion. There are 6 types of fiber in total, 4 soluble and 2 insoluble. Mixing soluble fiber like oatmeal with the insoluble fiber in pears gives the body the whole 6 types of fiber and is a perfect combination of foods to start the day.

After my oatmeal I eat an easily digestible form of protein like eggs or protein powder mixed in a blender with water, fruit and some skim milk powder. The protein is necessary for maintaining muscle and gives you a solid profile of important amino acids to help keep the body and mind functioning properly. The fruit in my ideal breakfast provides the necessary antioxidants to keep you healthy while gathering the dangerous free radicals in your system and flushing them away with your body wastes. I add the skim milk powder to the protein shake as a little extra protein and as a valuable source of calcium as I do not eat a lot of dairy foods in my diet.

While this is my ideal breakfast it might not necessarily suit everybody but eating a breakfast like mine you give yourself a mixture of essential and important vitamins, minerals, fiber, slow burning and long lasting carbohydrates for energy, antioxidants and protein. All up this is a super healthy, low fat , low sugar and medium calorie ideal breakfast that will not only help you to maintain a vigorous body and a healthy level of muscle, it will also help speed up your metabolism which can aid in the burning of bodyfat throughout the day.

Thanks for a great post, what happens if you can’t stand oatmeal, would shredded wheat and soy milk be a good substitute? And does time you eat breakfast matter, should it be whenever you wake up.
