Right Place Right Time Every Time
August 25th, 2007Have you ever considered exactly why you are where you are at today? Perhaps you are overwhelmingly happy about your current position in life or maybe you are disappointed with what you have become or where your life is at. What I am going to tell you in this article is, you are where you are today and there is no other place you could possibly be since you are always in the right place at the right time every time. So the first thing that has probably popped into your mind when I said there is no other place you could possibly be right now is, what if I made a different choice or took another path in the past, then I would be in a different place. The truth is that is not possible and I will explain why.
We go through our lives gaining knowledge, discovering new information, learning lessons, making mistakes, having victories, dealing with losses and so on. This is the nature of our life on this planet and it begins to happen from the day we are born. As we watch the world and the people around us we all grow into unique individuals. Even if we look like someone else, we will never ever think exactly like someone else since we are all a product of our own unique set of experiences. It is due to the nature of these experiences that we become who we are and think the way we do. If we encounter a host of loving experiences as we grow into adults we might tend to have a positive or general feeling that the world is wonderful and quite positive. If we grow up in a world of violence and hatred we would most probably feel quite fearful of the outside world and be very wary of other people. I am not telling you anything you do not already know, what I am trying to establish is that we all encounter a different set of circumstances in life and this shapes our thinking patterns as individuals.
Now the reason why we are in the right place at the right time every time is because we can only ever make one choice in any given moment. You may be thinking that this is not true, I did also before I could get my head around this concept, but I will do my best to explain the concept without leaving any room for doubt. Don’t confuse options with choices, although they seem to mean the same thing, they are not. Yes we always have options in any situation but we can only ever make one choice. Let me give you a complete example.
You are working in a liquor store behind the counter and an obviously high or intoxicated armed robber enters the store and demands to be given all the money in the cash register. Person A behind the counter has been through a similar situation before and reacts by carefully opening the cash register and handing over the money and the bandit runs away.
Person B behind the counter is extremely timid and fearful by nature and has never before been in a situation as remotely scary as this and subsequently freezes up. The bandit begins screaming at person B and trys to open the cash register himself but cannot get it open so he shoots person B since he is so strung out and on edge and then flees the scene.
Person C behind the counter lost his father in a similar style armed robbery 2 years before when a robber shot and killed his father and the police were never able to track down the killer. Person C is filled with anger and hatred and as he notices the armed robber look around the shop at all the petrified customers he makes a grab for the gun, it accidentally discharges and kills one of the customers.
Person D behind the counter is cool and level headed but is in the shop alone at the time with no customers present and when the gunman bursts in he decides to hand over all the money but the gunman being scared that person D will be able to identify him, shoots him in the stomach and then the robber flees the scene. However, person D survives. I wonder what person D would do next time.
Ok, I have presented the same situation but with 4 different types of people behind the counter. In each and every case a decision has to be made, there are a number of options to choose but ultimately only one choice can be made and where does that choice come from. There is only one place that choice can come from and that is by drawing on all your previous life experiences and deciding what you think is the best choice. You don’t have time to sit down and think about it, you have to simply make a choice or perhaps you will go into autopilot mode and just react but that choice would also stem from your collective experiences. Since we are all a product of our experiences we will each choose to do what we feel is right in that brief moment and we will have to live or die with that choice. There are a number of options but only ever one choice.
To get to this horrible situation was also your choice, since you had to first take the job, maybe because you needed the money or you had a friend that worked at the same store or it was your part time weekend only job to save up some extra money for traveling or to get the money together for a deposit on your first home. On top of this you had to make the choice to go to work on that particular day, you could have called in sick or you could have refused the shift but you made what you thought was the best decision for you in that moment and went to work at the liquor store on that day.
The reason why you are always in the right place at the right time every time is due to the fact that you always have to decide from moment to moment, throughout your entire life, what is the next best step to take. How you make the choice is by drawing on your previous experiences, I mean what else could you possibly draw on? You might not always make what seems like the best choice but you do not and never will have the benefit of hindsight, if you did it would not be called hindsight.
I once had regrets that haunted me for years and over time it started to wear me down till I met someone who was infinitely wiser and more spiritually enlightened than me who explained that regret and jealously are probably the two most wasteful forms of energy that could ever exist. I told this person I wish I had made different choices and he explained to me what I am writing about today. He said I could not possibly have made any other choices than the ones I made at the time and it was from those choices I learned the lessons I needed to learn. I once wondered why I always had to learn lessons the hard way but now I know there is no such thing as an easy lesson. Easy come easy go, it is through the struggle and by overcoming adversity that we learn our lessons and if we are smart we never have to learn those lessons again.
Once you understand that you are always in the right place at the right time every time you are able to release regret and move forward to a much happier place and with a new lesson under your belt that you never have to learn again. The more you learn through making choices and having to deal with those choices the wiser you become and the easier it is to make the ideal choice when new situations arrive in your life.
One more thing I would like to add is that you never know how a situation is going to take shape till you make your choice. If, in the example of the liquor store hold up you made a choice and got killed or someone you know got killed, this is the nature of life on our planet and there is no other way things could have transpired. You can hate and regret all you like but you can’t change the nature of life but you can accept the choices you make and the choices of others and love the journey. When you make a choice and your dreams come true this might have only ever come about due to all the seemingly bad choices you made and learned from in the past. There is a valuable lesson in every choice you make.
