Repetition Is The Key

October 12th, 2006

No matter what it is in life you are striving to achieve, be successful at or trying to overcome, one often overlooked essential ingredient is simple repetition. The more you do or say the same thing over and over again, the more likely you will make it happen. If you want to be a good golfer, swimmer or tennis player, the repetition of playing or practicing every chance you get is what will make you a better performer. Repetition is so important that you don’t even need to be initially good at something to eventually achieve greatness in any particular endeavor. Repetition is the key ingredient in changing your subconscious mind.

In regards to personal development there are a number of areas where repetition can supercharge your results and I myself have seen huge changes seemingly appear overnight due to my attention to repetition. One area where repetition is the key is in the application of positive affirmations. If you have a particular goal you want to achieve it doesn’t matter if you know where to begin or how on earth you are going to achieve it, simply by repeating an affirmation in the present tense as often as possible you will start the process of changing your subconscious mind and as this begins to happen the action steps towards the achievement of that goal will be presented to you.

At first your mind might not accept or believe it is possible to achieve your set goal but through a constant drowning of your thoughts with the same repetitive affirmation, in time your subconscious will eventually accept the idea and you will see it begin to manifest in your life. Changing your subconscious mind takes time but through repetition it can be done. The biggest problem most people seem to face is that they don’t see immediate results and give up. I’m not telling you anything new by saying giving up will get you nowhere. It will take some work on your part to stick with it and the great thing about repeating affirmations is you can do it anywhere and at any time. You can repeat affirmations to yourself upon waking, having a shower, traveling, taking an elevator, walking and virtually anytime you are not engaged in a conversation with someone. Nobody even needs to know as you are repeating them to yourself without needing to move or open your mouth.

When using the technique of creative visualization, repetition can help speed up the process of changing your subconscious mind and therefore your results. Your reality or what you see around you is the manifestation of what you habitually think or see in your minds eye. If you constantly see images of yourself only just managing to get by financially or not being with your ideal partner, you can begin changing your subconscious mind with the repetition of affirmations and by using the visualization technique. Begin to see yourself living in the house of your dreams or driving your new car or being with your ideal partner, smiling and laughing. The constant repetition of these thoughts or images in your head will lead to changing your subconscious mind and subsequently these things coming into your life. However, you need to keep an eye out for the syncronisities or opportunities as they appear in your life. Without being aware of it, people often repetitively play the same negative mental images over and over in their mind and have no idea they are the very cause of all their own problems. However, people who have become spiritually aware know that what ever images you repeat in your mind will become your experiences. It is just that simple. The key is to try and catch yourself when the negative thoughts or images appear in your mind and then begin to play repetitively, the positive movie in you mind. During a quiet time imagine yourself doing or having whatever it is you want and substitute this positive mental picture anytime you are running a negative image through your mind. With repetition you will start changing your subconscious mind and your circumstances for the better.

I have worked as a personal trainer for many years and obviously one of the most commonly asked questions I hear is, what is the best way to lose weight? Without going into the nutrition side of things, my usual response to this question is the best way to lose weight is through repetition. If you can go for a 45 minutes to 1 hour walk first thing in the morning before eating, your body will begin to burn fat shortly after you start as your heart rate starts to rise. It is the ideal time to burn fat since your blood sugar level is at its lowest point in the day due to the fact you haven’t eaten since the day before. Therefore your body will burn bodyfat as an energy source because there is no usable food in your body at that time that can be used for energy, so effectively this is the best way to burn fat. However, the key to success with this exercise is, you guessed it, repetition. Without the repetition of doing this exercise almost every day, you probably won’t get the result you are looking for.

The use of repetition can be applied to so many things in your life but the key to success is not to give up. If you want something bad enough there may be a number of steps you need to perform to get it but without a doubt, it will be repetition that will help you get there faster. So remember, repetition, repetition, repetition, it’s a good habit to get into.

[…] The subconscious mind cannot take a joke, it follows our habitual thoughts and does everything in its power to make manifest whatever we truly believe. If we repeat affirmations like, I am wealthy, but the subconscious mind simply does not or will not believe this with conviction what can we do? We can use power words to overcome this lack of initial belief from the subconscious and kind of trick the subconscious and change the old belief but this process takes time and repetition is the key.
