If you went to the doctor and found out you had a brain tumor, obviously you would be terribly concerned. If however, the doctor advised you that this tumor could be successfully removed even though it may cause you some temporary discomfort and some disruption to you daily life, you would of course, have it removed as quickly as possible. You would gladly put up with some disruption since its removal would ultimately be for your long term benefit. Obviously you would do this, it goes without saying.
So why is it I ask, that employers continue to persist with poisonous staff members? You know the ones I am talking about. The staff who undermine the integrity of management every chance they get. Staff who continually whine about the conditions of their employment, the ones who talk behind the backs to other staff members and the ones who only ever flood the work place conversations with negativity and bitching.

Once bitterness and conflict set into a workplace environment it is difficult to contain and the consequences can become far reaching. However, there is a fast cure for these penchants of doom and that is for management to act fast and with conviction. Whether this action requires removing these poisionous staff from the workplace or counseling them, this is ultimately a managerial decision that needs to be made.
Yes, taking action may cause some initial disruptions to the running of the business, especially if these staff are terminated but the short term pain is very much for the long gain of the company and the rest of the staff combined.
Removing the tumor allows the body get back to its normal, healthy self. Removing the poisonous staff member leads to better morale and far greater long term productivity.
