Overcoming Laziness
April 5th, 2009The key to successfully overcoming laziness is to first identify why it is you are lazy. If you are chronically ill or depressed it may be the result of a medical condition, be it physical or mental, more so than an old fashion case of common laziness. In this article I will address the common form of laziness and procrastination with some easy to implement tips and suggestions. Overcoming laziness is predominantly about changing old habits and it can be as easy as you want it to be.
Firstly, you need to ask yourself, why am I lazy? You know the answer to this question, it is just a matter of being honest with yourself. In most cases, laziness stems from a lack of motivation and you simply feel like you could not be bothered. Maybe you could not be bothered getting a job, you could not be bothered exercising, you could not be bothered making an effort to find a new partner or any number of other reasons why you just basically could not be bothered. Why is it that you feel like you could not be bothered?
Perhaps you have lost confidence in yourself, perhaps you never had any confidence to begin with. This can be overcome, especially once you accept that this is a problem. Taking any action whatsoever is the very first step towards overcoming laziness and by taking action, this serves as an early confidence boost. Maybe the first step is just a matter turning off the TV for half an hour a day and going for a walk around the block. It may only be a baby step but it is taking action and taking action is where progress begins.
Like the old saying goes,
Over the years I have worked as a personal trainer, I have seen tremendous results as people have transformed their overweight frames into athletic physiques by no other means than taking regular action. That is all that is needed to transform a body or to overcome laziness, just take action. Take action by changing your diet, take action by exercising, take action applying for that job, take action by going to places where you might meet someone. It is not rocket science, it is just one easy step after another taking action daily, weekly, monthly and so on.
No one can make you take action, you have to find the motivation within. No matter how hard things may seem for you or how unhappy your life has become, there is a good chance that someone else in the world has had an even tougher life than you and they have overcome the odds and improved the quality of their life by taking action and overcoming laziness in the process.
When a baby starts to walk, he or she falls down time and time again in the beginning but eventually that baby begins to walk. Overcoming laziness is the same concept. When you get off your backside and take action you form a new habit and that new habit will lead you away from laziness and towards success in whatever you put your mind to.
