Some people have serious difficulty refocusing their vision when there is a sudden change in the level of light. This can occur in both cases where you may have moved from a brightly lit area into a dark or dimly lit locale and also when moving from a dark place to a well lit environment. In either case, the common cause of this inability to quickly adjust the eyes to a significant change in light intensity is due to a vitamin A deficiency. This condition has often been referred to as night blindness.
Healthy cells in the human body need vitamin A to function properly and when there is a deficiency of this vitamin, the eyes and tear ducts can dry up and cause a number of problems with vision. A vitamin A deficiency can also have adverse effects on other parts of the body like the ears, mouth, tongue and sinuses.
Since the human liver can store healthy amounts of vitamin A even for several years, many people will never suffer from a deficiency. However, if your vision is poor it certainly would not hurt to include a small quarter liter glass of fresh carrot juice in your diet on a daily basis. You might find that in no time at all your vision improves significantly. Carrots and carrot juice also contain high levels of vitamin E which helps to maintain healthy skin and is known as one of the most powerful anti cancer vitamins. Mixing carrot juice with the juice from other vegetables or fruit makes for an excellent wake up drink to start the day.
