I Am Fairly Happy But Should I Take A Risk?

November 4th, 2006

A long time ago I remember someone asking me a leading question and I fell right into the trap. Let me ask you the same question. If you had only one of two options, which would you choose? Would you rather be rich and unhappy or poor and happy? If you were like me many years ago, you would have paused to think about which answer you would choose. However, the longer you think about the answer the more obvious it is. Nowadays I wouldn’t get caught so easily as there is only one true answer to this question and for those of you who are still unsure, you might want to read the rest of the article to find out.

If you are like me, your ultimate goal in life is to be happy. Sure I cherish my relationships and I like to earn money that in turn allows me to travel and live a better quality of life, but success in all areas of life ties in with being happy. Even with all the money in the world, what use is it if you are not happy. Anyone who has ever been unhappy and I’m sure almost everyone can relate to this at some stage in there life can attest to the idea that happiness reigns supreme over all else. So it is for this reason that to entertain the notion of choosing monetary wealth over happiness even in poverty is just ridiculous. Although I do agree that it is most definitely convenient to have money, it is not and never will be a true source of your happiness. Money, I would say, complements an already happy life and gives you more freedom.

So getting back to the question in the title of this article, should you take a risk? This is where you need to ask yourself exactly how much of a role does happiness play in your life. If you are fairly happy, is that good enough for you or would you like to be more happy and possibly in more control of your life? I’ve asked myself this question on a number of occasions during my working life and every time I’ve felt a bit unsure of things, that’s a pretty good indicator that things could be better. Everytime it has lead me to step out of my comfort zone and everytime when I have taken the risk things have worked out for the better. That’s not most of the time, that is everytime. Although sometimes, at first glance, things may appear to be a little shaky or unfamiliar when you do take that risk, it’s funny how things seem to work out.

Once you have decided on a mental level that you need to move on or make a big change in your life, like moving to another town, or overseas, or to a new job or starting your own business, the kinetic energy of your subconscious mind begins to move in a new direction and you send a new signal out into the universe. Whether you are aware of this or not, a change in your thought pattern brings a change in your immediate reality. Your changing thoughts bring about new opportunities and events that are up to you to capitalize on. The power is in your hands and when you are courageous enough to make a change, don’t let fear stop you from following through on your intentions when the opportunities arrive. You will know what direction to take by simply following your intuition or by going with what feels right deep down.

A great way to know if you are making the right decision is to ask yourself whatever it is you want to know, just as you are going to bed or when you are already in bed and waiting to drift off to sleep. Invariably, the right answer will come to you either on waking or sometime the next day. Be aware of this and expect to feel the answer or notice a sign as you go about your day. I have had great success with this technique and the more you practice it the better it will work for you.

Taking a risk is one of the most empowering things you can do. The one and only thing stopping you from doing this is the fear of the unknown, but it is only fearful if you look at it that way. By changing your perspective and looking at it as a new adventure in which the rewards could be even greater than what you expect is one way to counter that fear and look at it as an opportunity you wouldn’t want to miss.
