How to Stop Worrying
June 9th, 2007A few years back how to stop worrying so much was something I needed to deal with since I always seemed to be worrying about something. Although I wanted to know how to stop worrying the more I thought about it the more I worried about how to stop worrying so I only ever ended up feeling worse. To stop worrying you need to break the chain or in other words, stop worrying about worrying or simply stop thinking so much since the more you think the more often your thoughts turn towards worrying.
While pondering the idea of how to stop worrying I realized the only way for me to stop worrying was to spend more of my time with my thoughts turned off and although the best way to do this is meditation I was not too familiar with meditation at that time so I started listening to music. I always liked listening to music but I was never the type of person to go out and buy CDs, I might occasionally listen to the radio to whatever songs were playing but that was about it.
Instead of simply listening to random songs where often the very words in the songs can sound quite depressing, I went to a alternative bookshop that deals in mainly spiritual and new age type of material and bought myself some relaxation CDs with the sounds of nature and a number of different musical instruments being played in the background. None of the music I bought had any words in it so it was easier to focus just on the sounds and this gave me my first insight into how to stop worrying.
Of course I could not go round with headphones on all day listening to the sounds of nature to help me stop worrying but what I could do was take time out of my schedule each day for short periods and listen to this calming music. By doing this I realized once and for all how to stop worrying. Whenever I wanted to stop worrying I needed to break the chain and the music helped me see how I could immediately break the chain and immediately stop worrying. I did this by concentrating my attention solely on the sounds of the music and did not allow myself to think about what ever it was that was worrying me.
Over time, not only did I come to terms with how to stop worrying I also was able to induce the same relaxed feeling I got when I started to listen to relaxing music without needing the music anymore. How to stop worrying comes down to practice just like you need to practice to get better at anything you want to get good at. I certainly wanted to become proficient at not worrying and with practice I managed to stop worrying no where near as much.
I think everyone worries on some level at least some of the time but if you worry a lot the answer to how to stop worrying lies in breaking the chain. To break the chain and stop worrying you need to stop thinking or at least break your train of thought and have something else to clearly focus your mind on and that could be relaxing music. The more often I broke the worry chain the weaker the chain got and it eventually lead me to become a person who rarely worries and my life has become infinitely better and my thoughts are clearly more stable once I figured out how to stop worrying.

Nice article. Worrying will only get us no where. Since some of our worries are cause by lack of knowledge, I think it could help if we learn more about the things we worry about. It could boost our level of certainty and avoid further worries.

i think that those people who always worry are those who don’t enjoy their life and don’t have some means doing anything they really like. I believe that doing things that makes us feel great about ourselves is one way of getting rid of worries.
