How to Increase Your Energy
September 5th, 2007The following tips on how to increase your energy will allow you to achieve greater productivity and feel considerably happier on a day to day basis. One of the reasons why we feel tired during the day, run down and sometimes in a bad mood is due to a lack of energy and this is usually directly related to not following some regular daily habits. In this article I will address how to increase your energy levels which will lead to you becoming more efficient and reaping greater pleasure from life by making some slight adjustments that you will easily be able to fit into your busy schedule.
- Eating breakfast every morning will not only provide you with energy from food but it will kick start your metabolism for the new day which aids in keeping your body lean. The ideal breakfast is one of the primary steps in regards how to increase your energy as it will give you the endurance you need to get through to lunch time, it will allow you to concentrate and focus on your work or your other responsibilities and allow you to avoid a mid morning bout of tiredness. Overall, eating breakfast will not only give you energy but also help to put you in a much better mood than if you skipped breakfast.
- Exercise every day. People who say they don’t have time to exercise are either making excuses or should make the time to exercise. Exercise leads to the increased blood flow of fresh oxygenated blood throughout the entire body which flushes away toxins that build up daily within the muscles and tissues of your body from pollution, chemicals in the water and food and numerous other sources. Exercising helps to burn fat and stimulates the release of brain hormones called endorphins which give you the ultimate natural high which leads to a feeling of well being.
- Eat small meals regularly that are high in complex carbohydrates and protein and moderately low in fat. This is one of the most important steps in regards how to increase your energy levels on a regular basis. Like the old saying goes, you are what you eat. Eating healthy food most of the time gives you a slow release and long lasting form of energy to give even the most active people the stamina they need. Here is some information on the biggest dieting mistakes and why diets don’t work.
- Spend some time outside every day. Although prolonged exposure to the sun is not good for the skin, getting some sunlight, even on an overcast day is the best way to get a dose of vitamin D which we absorb from sunlight. For those with light colored skin, just 10 minutes of sun on the skin each day is sufficient. If you have darker skin you could have 20 minutes or more of sun exposure daily. Short daily spells in natural sunlight every day have a remarkable ability to increase energy levels and alertness.
- Avoid caffeine as much as possible to increase your energy. It is ok to have the occasional tasty beverage containing caffeine but try to avoid taking caffeine on a daily basis. Caffeine blasts the central nervous system not unlike other drugs and will give you a temporary boost in alertness but what goes up must come down. Eat a piece of fruit instead since it will give you a slow and steady rise in energy that will last longer without the caffeine crash.
- Try your best to spend time around positive people and try to avoid negative people as much as possible. Positive people have the effect of uplifting you and making you feel motivated. Negative people are energy vampires and will suck the life right out of you if you let them.
- Spend at least 15 minutes alone everyday. During that 15 minutes try your best to stop thinking and clear your mind of any and all thoughts. You can call it meditation or just taking a break from every thing that is going on in your life. It is a great way to help boost your energy by releasing all thoughts and emotions and as it becomes a habit you will get more from the process.
- Avoid news media as much as you can. Most media in the form of newspapers and TV news is filled with negative information and disturbing pictures. This is not keeping you up to date on world events, it is keeping you in a state of subconscious fear, perhaps without you even being aware of it. Knowing how many people got killed today will never have a positive effect on increasing your energy level.
- Getting 7-8 hours sleep every night is essential to increase your energy levels as high as possible throughout the day. If you are not getting enough sleep it can have an avalanche effect in other areas of your life.
- Smile more. Smiling is contagious, so the more you smile, the more you will affect the people around you and together a group of smiling people will create a warm environment and a positive flow of energy.
