Enjoy the Journey
October 15th, 2007So often through the course of our lives we lose focus on what is most important and that is to enjoy the journey of life. We get so caught up in our own affairs and sometimes the affairs of others that we lose sight of the wonderful gift of life we may at times take for granted. When you take a step back every now and then and really bathe in your surroundings and see all the good or potentially good things around you, it might the wake up call you needed to get back on track and enjoy the journey once more.
I freely admit that I am guilty of getting caught up in the details of life sometimes to the point where I start to feel a little suffocated by trying to tackle too many projects at the same time. Especially when I set out to achieve a new goal, sometimes while trying to reach a number of other goals at the same time, I end up forgetting all about my amazing journey through life and this always leads to the realization that I do not have to achieve everything at once. Things will happen in their own good and right time when you let go and trust in the process of life.
Someone once said, life is what happens while you are making plans for the future. I do not know for sure who originally said this, it might have been John Lennon but I guess it does not matter so much who said it, it is just a reminder to enjoy the journey. Perhaps we come back in another life or as some other form of consciousness somewhere in the universe but one thing is quite certain, we will never get a chance to live this same life again. For me, I believe our consciousness will continue in some way after we die but I want to make the most of this life I am living today.
Setting your intentions or establishing new goals are positive steps to improve the quality and satisfaction you get from life but when you also make time to enjoy the journey while striving for your goals, your day to day existence will be significantly more livable. Of course we all need to work and make money but it is just as important to make time to play and relax as it is to strive for the dollar. I have an old quote book and one of my favorite quotes is, no one ever said on their deathbed, I wish I spent more time at the office. I think most people would agree with that one.
