Don’t Forget Your Affirmations

A few weeks ago I got an email from a friend who is usually very positive. She is one person I like to talk to if I am feeling a bit stressed out as she seems to always be so optimistic regarding all aspects of her life. This email I received from her recently however was not as positive as she normally is as she told me how she has been under tremendous pressure at work and her entire life has been effected by this pressure and she said she now wakes up each day thinking she could just stay in bed because she is so stressed out.

She is as much into personal development as I am so at first I was not sure how I should reply so I decided to put myself in her shoes and think about what I would need to hear if I was stressed out. It was quite easy to put myself in her shoes as I have a job that can become quite stressful at times, managing many staff and living in a country where most people including many of my staff do not speak English.

Although there is so much information written online and in books about positive affirmations, so many people do not use them. Instead they use negative self talk against themselves which only serves to make their situation worse. I know this as I am also guilty of negative self talk at times when my workload gets almost to the breaking point. The truth is the workload is usually about the same as I can only do so much, just like we all can only do so much, but we let things get on top of us and even the most positive people like my friend can fall into the trap of negative self talk.

I told her to think about all the things that are stressing her out and told her to try putting all those things into one negative affirmation. After she has done this I said to imagine the opposite of that negative affirmation and make up a new positive affirmation encompassing all the things that are good in her life at work and at home and just repeat that affirmation while visualizing her stress free life about 3 times before she falls asleep.

Did you know that your subconscious mind is like a sponge for a new idea or concept just before you fall asleep? I told her to repeat her positive affirmation slowly and with as much feeling as possible just 3 times before bed. That is all it takes, in fact if you push too hard with affirmations you may reap the opposite result of what you are looking to achieve if you try too hard with your affirmations. Use the words to raise a positive feeling within yourself and once you do that you can simply let go of the affirmation and let the feelings sink into your subconscious mind and then what you want will manifest. Trying too hard with anything in life often causes a blockage to appear as your fears creep into your thoughts and obstruct what it is you are trying to achieve.

One more thing I told her was to remember that you ask for everything you get in life. It may not seem like this is true but you really do. Your subconscious only brings to you what you believe is possible and maybe all the stress she is feeling now is leading to the answer of a bigger or more general question she has been asking of herself.

As it turned out she replied to me and said she was about to apply for a more senior position in her company but she was worried she would not be able to cope as it would entail far greater responsibility than her current position. Her fear of so much more responsibility brought all this extra stress into her life and then she realized she had nothing to fear as she knew within herself she was certainly ready for the more senior position and when she came to terms with this by relaxing her mind at night before she went to bed, she felt more like her usual positive self. Only days later her boss asked her is she would be interested in a new position and you guessed it, it was the very job she was had been considering applying for.

I love it when I hear success stories from people who took control of their feelings and in turn their lives and made what seemed like impossible turn into something possible by simply changing their mind. Affirmations are simple and yes most of us have heard of them but when you use them and keep using them they can and will make your life less stressful and more enjoyable.
