If you suffer from high blood pressure but enjoy a cup of coffee, you have probably considered, does coffee increase blood pressure. For years people have detailed apparent problems associated with drinking coffee as well as the benefits of mild coffee consumption. Some say taking as little as a single cup of coffee per day will lead to adverse health conditions. Others say a couple of cups of coffee will not hurt you, perhaps even give you a noticeable positive boost. Well the facts are now in on whether coffee increases your blood pressure and you might be a little surprised with the findings.

Countless studies conducted in the United States and in Europe seem to be unanimous in their conclusion in regards, does coffee increase blood pressure. The answer is an unequivocal, no. Drinking coffee does not increase blood pressure.

In first time users of caffeine, slight changes in blood pressure may occur but these changes are so minimal they are no cause for alarm. Studies conducted on regular coffee drinkers over periods of years show no increases in blood pressure of any significance at all. There seems to be little or no change in the blood pressure of both men and women who regularly consume as many as 6 cups of coffee daily.

Now what drinking coffee does do is stimulate the adrenal gland which does have an effect on increasing the metabolism. How much the metabolism is increased by, after a cup of coffee, depends on the individual. Drinking a cup of coffee before exercise seems to have a positive effect on mental alertness and allows the muscles to contract harder.

Over the years I have been involved in bodybuilding, I have found a single cup of coffee before my workout gives me a distinct boost in mental focus before I hit the weights. I am not advocating this practice and I usually only drink coffee before my workouts but for me I like a blast of coffee to get me in the zone before I start training.

So for those wondering does coffee increase blood pressure, there does not seem to be anything to worry about. Although it is important to be aware that caffeine is a drug and too much of anything tends to be a step in the wrong direction. Drinking coffee in moderation however is something sufferers of high blood pressure can continue to enjoy.
