Do Nice Guys Always Finish Last?
April 21st, 2007Many women like the bad boy image but in reality that is where it normally ends, at the image. Women like the idea of a troubled and rugged figure who represents adventure and unpredictability. They may fantasize about a man who is tough and ready to fight at the drop of a hat instead of talk their way out of an incident in a calm and relaxed manner. Often women see a bad boy type as someone they can help overcome his dark ways but in reality this might be a different story. Hollywood has glamorized the image of bad boys in movies for years and only a few years ago they actually made a movie called Bad Boys and followed it up with a sequel called Bad Boys 2. The funny thing was though in the movie Bad Boys, both the central characters only appeared on the job as bad boys but as we explored their characters, they were anything but bad, actually they were more like good boys.
In reality bad boys seem like a fun alternative to what many people might consider to be nice guys or guys who think before acting. Good guys usually save their money where as bad boys have no need for money, they live by the seat of their pants and get things even if they have to break a few rules along the way. Bad boys are cool and they call the shots where as good guys are thoughtful and let the lady choose if that is what would make her happy.
Bad boys are associated with an image of edginess and an air of danger that seems almost irresistible and downright exciting but in the real world how long can that type of relationship last for the woman or the bad boy. If it is a wild night of passion with no commitment from both parties maybe a classic bad boy one night stand might be just the thing you need to blow out the cobwebs and move on to the next stage of your life but if you think this bad boy romance is a long term thing you may need to reassess your thinking.
Nice guys do not have to be the opposite of bad boys by being spineless or weak. An education and direction in life are not uncool nor is compassion for others and this is what most women really want. Of course nobody wants a pushover or someone who cannot make a firm decision and stick to it but the notion of the classic bad boy as a long term partner might be better left on the big screen than something to tackle in the real world outside of Hollywood fantasy.
Just because someone seems boring does not necessarily mean they must fall into the nice guy category, if someone is boring it usually means you have nothing in common with them and that could be the case with someone who is nice or bad. Boring is boring whichever way you cut it. If you find yourself only ever attracted to bad boys you may need to look inside and ask yourself whether or not you deserve something better. If you feel worthless and believe nobody but a bad boy would want you, you might be surprised if you give a nice guy a chance and find he can really help you see your true worth and realize how special you are.
If your bad boy cheats on you, comes home when he wants without calling, is emotionally unavailable or abuses you, is this what you want and is this what you deserve? If the answer to these questions is no then the choice is entirely up to you and so is the outcome of the rest of your life. A bad boy may seem like a great idea in a day by day kind of world but if you are looking for someone to take care of you and treat you with respect you might need to give up on the fantasy and take a trip to the library (just kidding) to meet a suitable guy or simply give that nice guy next door a smile and see where it leads you. You might even end up on a nice adventure and who knows he might even have a few bad boy tricks up his sleeve.
