Chronic Back Pain Cure

November 15th, 2006

There are a number of possible reasons why people suffer from chronic back pain. These range from generally poor posture induced by slouching forward when standing or sitting, obesity causing excessive strain on the spine, regularly carrying heavy objects or even from having one leg longer than the other. These and other causes can place a repetitive strain on the spine and over a period of time result in a degeneration of the spinal column. However, there is another cause that many back pain sufferers have been unaware of and with immediate and simple treatment can be an effective chronic back pain cure and give fast relief. This requires nothing more than to re-hydrate the body with clean water. You may even feel a noticeable improvement in your chronic back pain in as little as a few weeks.

In between the vertebrae or bones of the spine we have cartilage tissue commonly called discs. These discs are made up of a moist gelatin type of tissue and the reason they are moist is because they retain water. The discs need to be well hydrated so the bones of the spine can move fluently. The fluid within the disc allows a cushioning at the joints or in between each of the vertebrae within the spine. When the body is dehydrated and the discs are not as moist as they should be this causes friction at each of the vertebrae and this in turn can cause tremendous pain in the back. Over a period of time a dehydrated disc can cause deterioration at the joint and the spine may begin to bend or twist. This often leads to slouching, poor posture and the need for a back pain cure.

Another important property of water in relation to the spine and as a chronic back pain cure is its ability to flush toxins from the spinal cord. These toxins which accumulate in the spinal cord are from a number of sources including pollution in the air, smoked foods, insecticides in some of the foods we eat and from the use of prescription drugs which leave behind a toxic residue that ends up in the spine. By staying hydrated we can alleviate many of these otherwise ongoing problems with chronic back pain by flushing the body and spine of this toxic buildup.

The human body is approximately 70% water, this means a 150 pound (70kg) person should be drinking close to 100 ounces (3 liters) of water per day to stay safely hydrated. If you are living in a particularly warm environment, spending long periods in an air conditioned space or living a very active lifestyle it would probably be necessary for you to drink even more than the recommended daily amount of water or even more water again if you suffer from chronic back pain.

It’s also important to understand that your thirst mechanism is not enough at alerting you to the fact that your body is dehydrated. By the time you begin to feel thirsty you are well past the point of dehydration. You should regularly sip on clear water throughout the day. If you drink coffee, tea, any caffeinated beverages or drinks containing sugar it is best to have an extra glass of water each time you have one of the drinks I just mentioned.

Another common cause of lower back pain comes from muscles in the back that frequently spasm. This is also directly related to your body being chronically dehydrated. The muscles in the back are connected by ligaments and tendons which in turn connect to the spinal column which is composed of the vertebrae and discs I mentioned previously. All these parts are interconnected and as dehydration sets in there is more and more pressure being put on the ligaments and tendons in the back causing pain. This stress on the ligaments and tendons only adds to your chronic back pain from the discs in the spine which are dehydrated causing friction due to a lack of lubrication at the joint.

One more tip I would like to add is that it is a good idea if your body is chronically dehydrated to add one or two teaspoons of salt per day to your diet. Sodium, commonly called salt, is very effective in holding water in the body. When you have successfully alleviated or can feel a noticeable improvement in your chronic back pain you can then cut down to just half or one added teaspoon of salt per day. The best way to see if this chronic back pain cure will work for you is to give it a serious try for a couple of months at least. It may take that long to see results but the important thing is to not give up and never disregard the powerful properties of water.

    1. Neil Simmons Says:

I’ve never suffered from cronic back pain luckily, but for a long time I did suffer for an ache in my lower back at the base of my spine. It got particularly noticeable when I had a Thai massage.

I don’t have this problem anymore. It went at the time when I was doing a lot of exercise, in particular weight exercise. Of course one has to be careful about over straining muscles, but at the time I was doing ‘dead lifts’ once a week, which is basically lifting a barbell from the ground with slightly bent knees up to waist height, and then lowering the bar back down to the ground, whilst all the time keeping your back arched. This strenthened by lower back muscles and my lower back ache has gone ever since.
