Becoming Aware Of The Real World

November 18th, 2006

As you “wake up” to a new level of consciousness as I like to put it, you begin to realize that the world you once lived in will never be the same again. At first this can be quite upsetting for some and for others it can be empowering. I have heard of people finding a new level of consciousness overnight and for others, like myself, it was a gradual awakening. Becoming aware of the real world for the first time causes you to look at every area of your life and by doing this you will notice some things that need your immediate attention and others that you will need to change as the awakening process continues to unfold.

No two people will react the same way when the awakening process is taking place and this is due to the fact that each and every individual has had a unique set of life experiences. We have all been brought up with differing belief systems and when these long held ideas about what life means come into question from some imaginary force, one that we cannot see from the outside but can undoubtedly feel from within, it can create great inner turmoil. It can make you begin to doubt yourself and wonder what on earth you are doing with your life because all of a sudden it no longer feels right. You may even fight it and manage to bury these new thoughts and “go back to sleep” but you won’t remain asleep for long for once you have consciously awoken there is no going back.

When I first noticed a sign that something just wasn’t quite right my life actually started to deteriorate before it got better. Many of the things that once made me happy no longer had that effect on me. I had been in a steady relationship for a few years and it became perfectly clear this was no longer healthy for either of us. I ended up leaving my job and the town I was living in and moved to the city. I struggled with this new found level of consciousness and would sometimes get angry and upset as I began to notice the injustices of the world. They were always there but I had either previously not been aware of these injustices or I simply didn’t care to acknowledge them.

Leaving town and moving to the city was a great way to quickly end many tired and old relationships with people I no longer shared common interests with and this did bother me at first but I quickly made new friends in the city. Some of these new acquaintances were consciously awake and some were not but as I began to awaken more and more to my new level of consciousness people on a similar wavelength began to find me. The big mistake I would make however, until I knew better, was to tell people about how I felt and what I had recently learnt about the “real world” but I soon realized this awakening only comes when you are ready for it. You may have heard the old saying “when the student is ready the teacher will come”, I finally understood what that meant. Knowing this it is important to let others be and do as they please, it’s nobodies place to judge others. I used to be very judgmental of politicians and those in the media for instigating war and instilling a sense of fear throughout the population but now I realize that it is most of the population in general who also feel this way and until more people begin to awaken to a new level of consciousness it is just something we need to accept. I do believe in time as our collective consciousness evolves we will see drastic improvements in both politics and the media as more people learn how to treat eachother with kindness and compassion instead of from a mental standpoint of fear which seems to be the case right now.

In time and I certainly can’t say how long it will take, and as much as it may not seem possible from this particular point in history, I believe the people of this planet will eventually work together and put human welfare above money and personal power. Yes, I know what you are thinking “it might take a while”. I agree but more people globally are becoming conscious and aware on a growing scale and deep down we all know that you cannot keep taking and taking, eventually you have to start giving back. It is when this mass collective consciousness on the global scale starts to give back more than it takes we will then begin to live in a paradise on earth for all, instead of the current situation of poverty for most and abundance for a few.

      John,
My feeling is that the world is starting to change through blogging. It’s an instrument of open communication between and among people of diverse backgrounds and idealogies and it’s also a platform where all things different melt into the common thread of harmony.
