Affirmations to Stop Drinking
June 2nd, 2007The best affirmations to stop drinking are ones that you are more likely to believe in time. It is not necessary to believe your affirmation at first although that would be ideal, it is through the constant repetition of affirmations to stop drinking where you will eventually see results. If you have a strong desire to stop drinking you are already on the right path and your affirmations to stop drinking will work their way into your subconscious mind sooner rather than later.
Affirmations to stop drinking need to penetrate your subconscious mind to have any effect on your life. You can start your affirmations to stop drinking any time even though you may not have cut back on your regular drinking. If drinking has become a problem for you than affirmations can help. The ideal way to begin incorporating affirmations to stop drinking into your life is to start by saying them for a few minutes at regular times throughout the day. To get in the habit of using affirmations a great time to start would be first thing in the morning for a few minutes when you wake up before you get out of bed. Repeat your affirmations to stop drinking again just before you have lunch and then again for a few minutes when you get into bed before going to sleep.
The constant saturation of affirmations to stop drinking will, over time, find there way into your subconscious thinking pattern and start to take effect in your life. There will probably not be a light bulb that suddenly switches itself on inside your mind saying, I am never going to drink again, but you may feel the urges to continue drinking as often or as much start to subside. When you notice subtle changes in your thoughts and feel your affirmations to stop drinking are starting to work this is where you can really help your progress by refraining from drinking whenever you feel you can. If you feel you absolutely need to take a drink than take one, no need to fight it but if you feel you can easily go without a drink on certain occasions then go without. The more time you spend not drinking the more that will lead you to stopping drinking altogether.
Your affirmations to stop drinking will work much faster if you believe in your words. The reason you have a drinking problem in the first place is you like the feeling of being drunk and being able to temporarily escape your problems. It is when you are sober that you feel down and depressed and wishing that you did not drink anymore as you know that after every drinking session you only end up compounding your problems. So start by saying something directly affirmative to yourself like, I am a non drinker, at first you may not believe it but through repetition you will begin to believe it and when you see yourself with a drink in your hands it eventually just will not feel right.
First thing in the morning you could use an affirmation to stop drinking that you will believe like, I like waking with a clear head. You could repeat, I choose not to drink as it leads me to a happier place, or use an affirmation to yourself that gives you your power back like I am a person that gets things done. Your drinking is from the misguided illusion that drinking will make you happy but it actually has the opposite effect in reality as you know. An indirect affirmation can also be just as effective like, I always make sensible decisions.
The key to effectively using affirmations to stop drinking is by not trying too hard. Simply repeat them to yourself at different times throughout the day and then let them go. Check out the article Why Affirmations Fail to give you a clearer understanding of the affirmation process.
